CPU Quality Assurance Advisor

We provide emergency and urgent healthcare that is free to patients at the time they receive it.

We are the only NHS provider trust to serve the whole of London and the nine million people who live in, work in or visit the city.  We cover an area of 620sq miles and have more than 8,000 people who work or volunteer for us – rising to 10,000 when including bank staff and students.

We answer around two million 999 calls a year and our crews attend more than 3000 emergencies a day. Our 24-hour 111 integrated urgent care services London answer around two million calls a year.

We play a leading role in integrating access to emergency and urgent care in the capital and are striving to ensure patients receive the right response, in the right place, at the right time

Our main role is to respond to emergency 999 calls, providing medical care to patients across the capital, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Other services we offer include providing pre-arranged patient transport and finding hospital beds. Working with the police and the fire service, we are prepared for dealing with large-scale or major incidents in the capital.

To undertake quality assurance activities within the Central Packing Unit (CPU), ensuring compliance with established packing standards, procedures and quality requirements. The post holder will monitor performance, conduct audits and inspections, identify areas of non-compliance, and provide appropriate feedback to staff to support continuous improvement.

The role is responsible for accurately recording, analysing and reporting quality assurance findings to inform service improvement initiatives and, where necessary, to support formal capability, performance management or disciplinary processes. Through the provision of effective quality assurance and oversight, this role contributes to maintaining the integrity, availability and reliability of operational equipment, ensuring that staff have access to the right equipment, in the right place, at the right time, with a high degree of assurance and confidence in its readiness for use.

A key area of responsibility will be the assurance of product quality and patient safety. The post holder will monitor the accuracy and reliability of packing processes to ensure that equipment, consumables and operational pouches are available for staff use and meet required standards. Performance indicators will include reductions in packing errors, monitoring of incident trends, effective management of product recalls, and evidence that identified issues are addressed promptly and effectively.

The role will also be responsible for undertaking regular reviews of packing records, scanning data, photographic evidence and associated documentation to provide assurance that quality standards are being maintained. Performance measures will include the timely completion of quality checks, the accuracy of audit findings, and the identification of trends or recurring themes requiring management intervention.

An important aspect of the position will be providing feedback, coaching and support to staff to promote a culture of continuous improvement. This will include communicating audit findings, identifying training requirements and monitoring improvements in performance over time. Indicators of success will include reductions in repeat errors, completion of competency assessments and evidence that feedback has resulted in measurable improvements in packing accuracy and compliance.

  • GCSE English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent qualification.
  • Educated to Level 4 qualification standard (e.g. HNC, Certificate of Higher Education, Foundation Degree) or equivalent experience in quality assurance, governance, compliance, logistics, healthcare operations or a related field or demonstrable experience

Experience

  • Experience of undertaking audits, inspections, quality assurance reviews or compliance monitoring within a healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, warehousing, quality assurance or regulated environment
  • Experience of investigating incidents, complaints, non-conformances or quality concerns, including gathering evidence, analysing findings and producing written reports
  • Experience of maintaining accurate records, analysing performance information and producing reports for management or governance purposes.
  • Experience of working within standard operating procedures, quality standards and documented processes, ensuring compliance with organisational requirements
  • Experience of providing feedback to individuals and teams, including supporting improvements in performance, quality or compliance
  • Experience of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to resolve operational issues and implement improvement actions.

  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies, errors and areas of non-compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret information, identify trends and make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Ability to undertake difficult conversations sensitively and professionally when discussing performance, quality concerns or non-compliance. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain findings, challenge practice constructively and influence improvement without direct managerial authority.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise and professional reports, audit findings and investigation documentation.
