Job overview

The Estates Department is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Multi-Skilled Operative (Plumber) to join our dynamic team at West London NHS Trust.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the trust's estate is compliant, safe, and fit for purpose. You will play a crucial role in making sure that our buildings and infrastructure meet the Trust's current and future clinical and operational needs.

Main duties of the job

-       Service, test, diagnose and repair faults in installations, plant and equipment with respect to mechanical and plumbing services as well as relevant electrical and electronic services. 

-        Understand the working of electrical, electronic, mechanical and plumbing systems in all areas.

-        Carry out analytical and problem solving techniques and document results.

-        Plan work; prepare schedules of materials and parts, using O & M manuals where appropriate, to effect repairs and / or maintenance.

-  Carry out reactive work requests, minor new work requests and weekly planned preventative maintenance dockets efficiently, to performance targets and with minimum disruption to staff and patients.

-        Escort contractors carrying out inspections, installations or remedial work within the secure perimeter, ensuring that they strictly adhere to the relevant policies and procedures, maintain tool lists and comply with Health and Safety and Security Regulations.

-        Participate in surveys, audits/undertakes acceptance testing of new   equipment.

-        Carry out priority work requirements on essential patient equipment used in patient care package and having a direct impact to the whole patient experience i.e. nurse call handsets, patient toilets/wash facilities, patient beds and patient hoists, general patient environment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised apprenticeship or other approved training scheme, plus relevant experience.
  • Plus City & Guilds part II or minimum NVQ Level 2 or other recognised course at the appropriate level
Desirable criteria
  • Health & Safety. Further relevant qualifications
  • Ventilation Refrigeration, Confined Spaces and Risk Assessment Training.
  • Water safety Training & Heating system training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate general experience of plumbing and heating systems or building trade.
  • Experience of working in large or medium organisational estate service
  • Significant experience across the Plumbing trades.
Desirable criteria
  • Worked within NHS environment.

Knowledge
