Job overview

The Facilities department within the Royal Marsden is looking for a Storekeeper Clerk to join the team.

The primary responsibility of the Storekeeper Clerk is to provide and support the Materials Management and internal receipting and distribution services.

The successful candidate must have the ability to remain calm under pressure and in emergency situations and demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with patient and staff related issues.

Main duties of the job

1.    Job Purpose
1.1.    The primary responsibility of the Storekeeper Clerk is to provide support to the Materials Management and internal receipting and distribution services. 
1.2.    To assist the Stores Department in providing a responsive and accurate goods receipt and distribution service to the Trust.
1.3.    The Storekeeper Clerk will be an integral part of receipting goods and products in partnership with and on behalf of key stakeholders both internally and with partnering organisations.
1.4.    The post holder liaises with all levels of ward and departmental staff (and with specialist staff as required. eg. Infection Control), to ensure stock is managed efficiently with minimal disruption to supply, and that product standardisation policies are adhered to.
1.5.    To ensure that the services remain fit for purpose and organisationally focused at all times

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

•    The receipt and inspection of goods received and the signing of relevant delivery documentation.
•    Checking goods and booking-in using purchasing system for reference.
•    Liaise with Purchasing Staff/Stores Manager with regard to goods received queries.
•    Picking/packing and entering information of stock orders on Inventory system.
•    Distribution of goods to correct point of use, obtaining ‘proof of delivery’ from authorised staff where necessary.
•    Accountable for stock rotation where necessary.
•    Assisting with routine and random stock checks.
•    Accountable for the cleanliness of Stores area.
•    Accountable for the security/integrity of Stores area.
•    To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
•    Keep stock at optimum amounts by monitoring and, with the authorisation of a budget holder, adjusting levels where necessary. Reduce waste through effective stock rotation by positioning new stock behind old stock.
•    Assist in delivery of print forms to ensure suitable stock levels are maintained and available to clinical departments at short notice
•    Responsible for receiving deliveries, checking and receipting on the Trusts purchasing system and for timely distribution to point of delivery.
•    Liaises with the Procurement Team, NHS Supply Chain (NHSSC) and suppliers with any queries relating to deliveries/returns, ensuring any discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
•    Responsible for Stores areas being kept safe, secure, clean and tidy.
•    Responsible for monitoring and recording of Stores environment and fridge/freezer temperatures, taking necessary action when temperatures fall outside normal ranges.
•    Assisting in accurate regular stock checks, and an annual stock take being carried out.
•    Embrace technology to work more efficiently and share information collaboratively.
•    Provide support and procedural advice to 'customers ', if required. This may involve dealing with complex queries and helping in identifying products in the NHS Logistics Authority catalogues.
•    Unload consumables from roll-cages and tote boxes, checking for accuracy, putting away in designated areas and removing roll-cages and containers from the ward/department to a less intrusive location to keep access clear.
•    Keep ward/department storage areas tidy, ensuring products are in the correct location so they are easily found by clinical staff, and disposing of rubbish and empty boxes/containers.

Essential criteria
  • General standard of education
  • Previous General Stores experience in NHS or similar environment.
  • IT literate, good working knowledge of Excel essential.
  • Manual handling.
  • Will be required to undertake any relevant training consummate with the role.
