Job overview

The Royal Marsden Hospital is one of Europe’s largest Oncology centres and was the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and education, with sites in Chelsea and Sutton our new Cavendish Square site .
We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic individuals to join the Diagnostic Radiology team at the sutton site 
Key skills required:      

•    Evidence of effective interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise with multidisciplinary team members.
•    Experience of working in a pressurised environment.
•    Experience of using hospital IT and booking systems.

The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual with good communication skills, punctual and courteous at all times and be able to remain calm under pressure. They should be flexible to work to between the hours of 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday and saturdays  8am to 5 pm weekends as shifts demand .

Meets all government criteria for apprenticeship funding, including appropriate visa status, required period of UK residency, and no prior learning or experience at a level that would prevent funding approval.

Main duties of the job

The administration assistant/receptionist is an integral member of the Diagnostic radiology team, under the supervision of the Imaging Support Manager.  The post holder will coordinate all administrative aspects of Diagnostic radiology including front line reception, scheduling of all modality bookings on  the Radiology Information System( RIS)  and clerical duties using other hospital IT systems . The Imaging department also works within a high-quality management system and has maintained alignment with Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) since February 2018.

You will be required to be flexible and work at our other locations as and when required; including but not limited to our Chelsea and Sutton sites and Cavendish Square location in central London.   

Our partnership with The Institute of Cancer Research and other key organisations means we offer access to the newest clinical trials and clinical trials of novel anti-cancer agents, all imaging modalities are fundamental to this process and forefront techniques and protocols are constantly being evolved within Radiology across all our sites.

2.1           Appointments, scheduling and capacity management 

2.1.1         To deal with all diagnostic radiology requests from clinical teams, ensuring that the imaging is booked and scheduled within Cancer Waiting Times targets, research pathway  targets and follow up targets 

2.1.2        To liaise directly with the patient regarding their scheduled appointment, providing patient information, reassurance and managing patient expectations around the diagnostic radiology experience 

2.1.3        To liaise with the clinical referring teams and nurse referrers to prioritise the scheduling of new  diagnostic requests, research and follow up patient requests 

2.1.4        To schedule all diagnostic imaging in line with local Radiology guidelines and protocols.

2.1.5        To schedule patient imaging and modality capacity efficiently, having consideration for a range of influencing factors such as the radiologist and radiographer staff rota, equipment maintenance  service dates , availability of outside imaging 

2.1.6       To plan ahead and to reschedule workload when necessary, to ensure that the modality capacity is optimally utilised. 

2.1.7        To book all diagnostic imaging appointments for all patients in a timely way 

2.1.8      To ensure that all patients leave the radiology department with an appointment date and time,  where appropriate.

Education/Qualifications

  • Educated to O Level standard or equivalent

Experience

  • Ability to use/ navigate confidently electronic booking and IT systems
  • Experience of typing and date entry and excel

  • Experience of using a Hospital Information System

Skills Abilities/knowledge

  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English
  • Ability to produce accurate work
  • Experience of working with a variety of staff
  • Ability to use word processing packages effectively.
  • Minimum typing speed 50wpm.
  • Ability to audio type
  • Ability to prioritise workload with minimal supervision
  • Previous receptionist experience
