Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with expertise in Haematology and Blood Transfusion to join us on a full time and permanent basis (part-time applicants will be considered). We are seeking individuals who are dedicated to providing a high-quality patient centric service and are enthusiastic about mentoring and sharing their knowledge.
Our team of Biomedical Scientists operate a 24/7 service involving lone working plus working alongside Associate Practitioner and Medical Laboratory Assistant colleagues. On site and remote discipline specific support is available from Team Manager and Advanced Practitioner colleagues who operate across the 3 SPS sites (two in Taunton and one in Yeovil). We use the following Sysmex analysers for FBC, ACL for coagulation and Ortho Vision analysers in Blood Transfusion.
Main duties of the job
· As a Biomedical Scientist within the Blood Sciences team, you will perform and interpret routine and specialist testing providing patient centred scientific excellence whilst maintaining high quality standards in accordance with ISO15189.
· You will supervise, mentor and support other Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants within your department, sharing your knowledge, experience and passion for your work.
· As a registered Biomedical Scientist, you will have the responsibility of maintaining fitness to practice and are required to participate actively in CPD. SPS will commit to support you in developing your skills and knowledge in line with your professional growth and our business interests. A dedicated Training team and extensive resources are available to support this.
· Most importantly, through our shared values, you will help to make a positive difference to the lives, health and wellbeing of those within our community that we serve.

Essential criteria
- HCPC registration, with post registration experience working in a Haematology and/ or Blood Transfusion section
Skills
Essential criteria
- Working knowledge and experience working with automated Haematology and Blood Transfusion platforms, and proven ability to prioritise and manage own workload
- Understanding of the clinical significance of results and ability to interpret and act upon the results you are producing in a lone working setting
Experience
Essential criteria
- Able to make decisions in line with guidelines and written procedures in order to support the care of critically ill patients, with particular reference to Major Haemorrhage and trauma
