Job overview

The post holder serves as the lead technical authority for all infrastructure-related programmes and projects within the digital portfolio. They are responsible for defining, owning, and enforcing architecture standards and technical strategy, and for making high‑risk, high‑impact technical decisions.

They will plan and oversee all programme infrastructure activity, support the development of the Trust’s technical strategy, and line‑manage technical resources brought in to support delivery. The role represents the programme at internal and external meetings, working closely with key stakeholders—such as Business Engagement, Change, Service Transition, and Project Managers—to ensure that technical designs meet customer needs and remain aligned with organisational strategy.

To support flexible working, the post holder may also be required to undertake duties in other roles at the same grade, where their expertise can add value and improve organisational efficiency.

Main duties of the job

The role is responsible for leading technical architecture, infrastructure strategy, and security across the Trust. It requires strong stakeholder management, maintaining relationships with senior leaders, clinicians, operational teams, and suppliers. The post holder develops technology roadmaps, designs resilient infrastructure solutions, and ensures alignment with organisational strategy and operational needs.

They oversee technical teams, allocate resources, set priorities, and ensure high‑quality delivery. The role also manages technical contracts, monitors capital and operational expenditure, and contributes to budget planning and business case development.

The post holder provides complex technical information, maintains infrastructure systems, develops reports, and uses management data to improve service architecture. They lead research and innovation, ensuring technology decisions reflect industry best practice.

The role also involves strategic planning, risk and dependency management, chairing or attending stakeholder meetings, and ensuring services are delivered to time, quality, and budget. They contribute to policy development, promote innovation, and ensure new or changed services have complete support models before going live.

Working for our organisation

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provides hospital and community services across Croydon through a range of clinics and specialist centres. Formed in August 2010 from the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust, we employ around 4,100 staff serving a diverse population of over 360,000 people.

Our main site, Croydon University Hospital, is one of the busiest in London. We are also leading the way in delivering more healthcare in community settings and people’s homes. Our district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons care for people of all ages across the borough.

Like the wider NHS, we are working hard to meet increasing demand. With the right people on board, we continue to innovate and transform our services to provide the highest quality care for local residents. We place strong emphasis on education, training and career development for all staff.

If you want to make a real difference, challenge yourself and be part of a Trust that’s shaping local healthcare, Croydon Health Services could be the place for you.

At Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, we are committed to supporting flexible working arrangements. Applicants are encouraged to discuss any flexibility they may need during the recruitment process.
