Maternal Medicine - Maternity Support Worker post, Band 4
We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and professional individual who is keen to work within an outpatient maternal medicine service. The maternal medicine team provides care to pregnant women and birthing people with complex medical conditions. You will have the knowledge and experience to work alongside midwives and support women with infant feeding, blood glucose monitoring, health promotion on pelvic health, vaccinations, diet and exercise, be able to safely monitor normal vital signs for both mothers and babies and be able to take part in parent education. Your clinical skills and knowledge should also include phlebotomy, catheter removal, cannula care, wound care, infection control procedures, manual handling and documentation.

Main duties of the job
You must have a completion of FdSc in Healthcare Practice or equivalent and have the ability to take initiative and work independently.

Your role will develop your clinical knowledge throughout the maternity care pathway; assisting new mothers throughout the antenatal period to postnatal care and breastfeeding support. You will work under the guidance and direction of midwifery staff, undertaking specific tasks under indirect supervision or independently. You will have experience in supporting other staff members and teaching junior staff.
You will maintain effective communications and empathic relationships with patients, staff and visitors to promote a systematic, holistic approach to maternity care.
