This is a fantastic opportunity to join The Hillingdon Hospital as an Estates Maintenance Multi-Skilled Handyperson at the Hillingdon Hospital site on a 6 months fixed term contract.

Main duties of the job
The Estates Maintenance Multi-Skilled Handyman provides a front-line maintenance service to ensure that the hospital’s buildings, engineering systems, and infrastructure remain safe, functional, and compliant for patients, visitors, and staff.
The post holder will undertake a wide range of reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities, including minor plumbing, joinery, electrical, and general building repairs across the Trust’s estate.
A key element of the role is responding promptly to reactive maintenance requests and breakdowns, diagnosing minor faults, and carrying out safe and effective repairs within the required Service Level Agreement (SLA) timeframes and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set for the Estates Maintenance Department.
In addition, the post holder will assist in delivering the Trust’s water hygiene control programme, carrying out low-use outlet flushing, temperature monitoring, and other PPM tasks on hot, cold, and closed water systems in accordance with HTM 04-01, HSG 274, ACOP L8, and relevant British Standards (BS) to support water safety (Legionella and Pseudomonas mitigation).
The role also includes conducting routine inspections such as drainage and roof-access checks, as well as seasonal de-icing of the Vacuum Insulated Evaporator (VIE) system for piped medical gases.

Essential criteria
- City & Guilds / NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Plumbing, Carpentry, Building Maintenance, or similar trade
- Basic Electrical Safety Awareness
- Demonstrable experience in general building or estates maintenance
- Experience carrying out plumbing, joinery, and general fabric repairs
- Experience responding to reactive maintenance issues on large sites
- Basic understanding of HTM 04-01, HSG 274, and ACOP L8
- Working knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH requirements
Desirable criteria
- Experience within NHS or healthcare environment
- Experience using CAFM systems or PDA devices
- Experience supporting Estates Technicians on projects
- Awareness of other HTMs (e.g., HTM 02-01 Medical Gas Systems)
- Awareness of water sampling and risk control processes
