Job overview

We now have vacancies for porters to join our friendly and professional facilities team. Our porters play a vital role in the smooth running of the hospital by transporting notes, specimens, equipment, x-rays, beds and patients throughout the hospital seven days a week 24hrs a day. There will also be some bank positions available. 

We are able to offer the following:

  • Day Porters (Mon- Fri)
  • Part time days weekdays
  • Variety of temporary shifts on our in house bank

We can supply full training but you must:

  • Have a friendly personality and be able to communicate well
  • Be physically fit
  • Be flexible and willing to learn
  • Good written and spoken English

You will undertake a range of general portering duties on the site.

Main duties of the job

  • To complete all appropriate departmental records and paperwork as required. Typically this will involve work sheets, rotas, mortuary process, vehicle log, incident reports.
  • To work safely at all times in line with H&S legislation. Reporting any issues to Chargehand.
  • To communicate effectively via a variety of means with all levels of staff, patients and visitors. This may involve giving directions, explanations and making arrangements for movement of goods and services. Face to face contact should be managed professionally.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To complete all appropriate departmental records and paperwork as required. Typically this will involve work sheets, rotas, mortuary process, vehicle log, incident reports.
  • To maintain a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors within the Hospital and grounds, and the protection of all Hospital assets.
  • To escort staff, cash and patients property around the hospital.
  • To work safety at all times in line with H&S legislation and departmental SSOW’s. Reporting any issues to Chargehand.
  • To communicate effectively via a variety of means with all levels of staff, patients and visitors. This may involve giving directions, explanations and making arrangements for movement of goods and services. Face to face contact should be managed professionally and conflicts resolved. Any situations which involve control and restraint are to be referred to the Police.
