Job overview

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and a motivated pharmacist to join our existing patient focused team and to provide a specialist medicine clinical pharmacy service at Fairfield General Hospital.

The post is a fantastic opportunity to embed yourself as a senior specialist pharmacist in Cardiology and Stroke within the trust sharing knowledge, facilitating improved performance within relevant ward areas and contributing to operational and strategic plans within the trust, with Fairfield General Hospital being a tertiary centre for Stroke.

This position is ideal for a pharmacists looking to excel in a dynamic working environment, supported by the Lead Clinical Pharmacist and Head of Pharmacy.  You will be supported to excel as a specialist and leader through attendance at relevant courses and conferences including leadership.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be responsible for the provision of high quality clinical pharmacy services which meets the needs of patients and healthcare professionals within the trust. You will operate as part of speciality medicine including cardiology and stroke taking the lead on effective medicines optimisation.

Your role will involve clinical supervision of pharmacy staff and teaching of nursing and medical staff as well as attendance at Heart Failure MDT.

You will contribute to service provision and conduct audit and project work within the speciality medicines directorate. Cover and input on other Medicine and community areas is expected to facilitate extended working rotas and ensure all clinical services are maintained. You will be responsible to control annual drug expenditure and provide support where necessary to clinical pharmacy, dispensary, medicines information, community services and medicines management programs.

You must be a motivated and driven pharmacist with excellent clinical and communication skills. You must be efficient, organised, being able to work both in a team and autonomously and be innovative and resourceful. You must be willing to work flexible hours over a seven day period within a structured rota.

Essential criteria
  • Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy (4 years) or recognised equivalent
  • Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Non-medical Prescribing qualification

Professional Registration

  • Registered with the GPhC

  • Considerable clinical experience within a hospital pharmacy
