You’ll communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner with patients, relatives, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, working flexibly across a range of day and night shifts over 7 days a week

You will ensure that a high quality safe clinical environment is maintained to ensure effective patient centred care can be delivered to critically ill patients in our busy Critical Care Department

A fantastic opportunity has arisen on the Critical Care Ward at North Manchester General Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed clinical and environmental assistant to join and  work as an integral part of our team.

CCW is a twelve bedded unit providing care for critically ill patients.

The post provides an exciting challenge to the successful candidate and gives the opportunity to play a key role in supporting the needs of Patients, multi-disciplinary team and relatives.

Main duties of the job

Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses and within Trust guidelines and protocols, you’ll assist the Nursing team in delivering the excellent standard of patient care that you would expect for yourself and your loved ones.

Your main duties will involve supporting the nursing team with basic patient care needs, replenishing stock and ensuring the tidiness and appearance of the department is conducive to good patient care

Following on the job training and assessment, you’ll learn how to undertake a range of delegated, clinical care duties that include

The role of the Clinical Environmental Assistant is mainly one of support to the staff and does NOT have the same degree of patient contact as would be expected in a general ward.

On joining MFT, if you are new to working in healthcare, you’ll be supported to develop your knowledge and skills through our Support Worker Development Programme for Clinical and Environmental Assistants which includes completion of the Care Certificate.

Evidence of prior learning will be reviewed and considered.

Essential criteria
  • General Education Completed
  • Willing to undertake the Skills for Health Care Certificate and willing to undertake the NVQ or Apprenticeship Level 2 in Care Support Services
Desirable criteria
  • Holds the NVQ or Apprenticeship Level 2 in Care Support Services or equivalent vocational qualification
  • Holds the Skills for Health Care Certificate, GCSE’s or level 2 key skills particularly in English and Maths

Work Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working in an acute care environment undertaking a full range of duties
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in working in more than one health care setting

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, Able to work on own initiative, following directions of registered nurses
Desirable criteria
  • Second language skills
