Catering Supervisor

Job overview

We are looking for a Catering Supervisor to lead the day-to-day teams in the provision of food service to both patient wards and retail outlets.

The role oversees retail and patient catering across Rochdale Infirmary, Tudor Court, and the Floyd Unit, ensuring services meet Food Safety Act standards and Trust policies.

You will be able to work without supervision at the stated place of work and ancillary units but may be asked to work within any of the Trust Kitchens. 

Responsibilities include supervising daily food service, leading staff briefings, maintaining cleaning and service standards, and ensuring food is prepared to standardised recipes with correct portion control.

Main duties of the job

  • Cash handling, analysing EPOS data to adjust menus, and completing monthly BVA reports. 
  • Recording of food temperatures, monitoring HACCP compliance, and adapting procedures as needed.
  • Stock duties include checking, rotating, and ordering supplies, recording wastage, and receiving deliveries.
  • Administrative tasks cover HACCP filing, patient numbers, and updating spreadsheets.
  • The role supports domestic tasks such as dishwasher use, tray clearing, and maintaining high cleanliness standards.
  • Leadership duties include supervising catering assistants, allocating tasks, managing rotas within budget, ensuring correct PPE, and maintaining positive team relations.
  • Training staff, ensures mandatory training is completed, and communicates effectively with managers.
  • Working under pressure, using initiative, and maintaining good relationships across departments. 
  • Physical demands include lifting, handling, prolonged standing, and extensive walking.
  • Use of the Electronic Menu Ordering Software to take patient orders and generate reports.

  • Level 2 Allergen Awareness
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent catering qualification and willingness to work towards an NVQ Level 3 if required
