Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Podiatrist to take on the role of Team Lead within the Podiatry Service.
The Team Leader will provide line management and clinical and operational leadership for the Podiatry team across all podiatric specialities. The role will support the safe, effective and efficient delivery of podiatry services, ensuring effective workforce coordination, service performance and the maintenance of high standards of patient care.
The post holder will also work as part of the clinical team, providing assessment, diagnosis and treatment where required across acute and community services, and liaising with external agencies to support safe and timely discharge from hospital.
They will act as a professional role model for the team, supporting staff development, maintaining clinical standards and contributing, where required, to the ongoing improvement and development of podiatry services.
Main duties of the job
- To take day-to-day responsibility for leadership, delivery and operational management of the Podiatry team, ensuring safe, effective and efficient service provision.
- To provide line management, supervision and professional support to team members, supporting staff development, performance management and workforce planning.
- To work closely with Clinical Leads to ensure equitable access to supervision and support for staff to achieve and maintain competencies required for HCPC registration.
- To develop, implement and monitor standards of service provision through clinical governance processes, including adherence to protocols and guidelines, clinical audit, quality improvement and risk management.
- To support service planning and contribute to business planning processes for the service.
- To deputise for senior staff as required, supporting operational decision-making and service continuity.
- To facilitate and support in-service training, audit and research activity within the team.
- To support the education and development of staff and students within the service, contributing to teaching, supervision and clinical education.
- To provide highly specialised podiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management for patients referred to the service where required.
- To work as an autonomous practitioner using advanced and highly specialised clinical skills to manage a complex caseload and maintain accurate records in line with professional and organisational standards

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Podiatry Department is a well-established service comprising a multidisciplinary workforce of 29 staff, including laboratory technicians, podiatry assistants, specialist podiatrists and clinical leads, working across Band 2 to Band 7 roles.
The service operates across Stockport, providing podiatry care from 12 clinical locations including Stepping Hill Hospital, GP practices, community health centres and patients’ homes.
Stockport Podiatry provides a wide range of specialist services for the local population. These include nail surgery, urgent care clinics, patient education programmes, high-risk foot management, and specialist adult and paediatric musculoskeletal assessment and treatment. The service also works closely within multidisciplinary teams, including diabetes and vascular services, orthopaedics and minor surgery teams, through the established High Risk Foot Team.

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Diploma/Degree in Podiatry and HCPC reg
- Evidence of continuous and current clinical, professional, leadership and academic development relevant to clinical fields.
Desirable criteria
- Formal management and leadership skills training

- Knowledge of a range of relevant conditions and their management
- An understanding of Clinical governance and evidence based practice
- Knowledge of recent NHS and Trust developments and their impact on the service
Experience

- Recent experience of working in the NHS including recent experience at Band 7 level
- Broad base of clinical experience prior to specialising
