Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Job overview

To support the Domestic Operations Manager in the provision of Domestic Services to Alder Hey NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

To ensure the Trust is cleaned to a high standard, by effective supervision, producing rotas to ensure all areas are manned and receive a high-level service in an organised, timely and responsive way, while working as part of a team with other Supervisors.

In addition to the hospital site located in the West Derby area of Liverpool, Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park building in the nearby borough of Sefton.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Ensuring that the cleanliness of the Trust is maintained to the required National Cleaning Standards and comply with the Trust Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
  2.  Ensure the day-to-day smooth running of the designated domestic team as part of the wider domestic service through the supervision and training of staff.
  3. Ensure a responsive service is provided in line with patient flow requests and cleaning activities, urgent request completed within defined timescales. Ensure required standards of cleanliness are consistently achieved in line with targets, Trust policies, SOP and cleaning schedules.
  4. Monitor the quality of work activities undertaken by the team using written and IT based system through audit and working with clinical and infection control staff in accordance with target timescales/KPI’s for which standard keyboard skills are required.
  5. Support the Domestics Operations Manager during review of KPI’s to take actions forward to improve performance as required.
  6. Management of sickness/absence in line with trust policy to support health and well being and attendance at work

Education and training

Essential criteria
  • Education to GCSE Level / BTEC/Diploma standard/NVQ level 4 or equivalent
  • Supervisory training Certificate
  • EDCL or equivalent
  • Level 1 standard Literacy and Numeracy Test on entry
  • COSHH training
Desirable criteria
  • BICS Trainer and Assessor qualification
  • Customer care training

Previous Healthcare Supervisor/Manager experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 3 years
