Job overview

This post is for a Clinical Fellow in Cardiology with a special interest in Device therapy.  This post is ideally suited to a senior trainee in devices who wishes to consolidate their knowledge and increase their experience before taking up a consultant post. Applications would also be welcomed from individuals with less experience who are committed to a career in Device therapy.  The appointee will be expected to have basic proficiency in bradycardia device and ICD implants and troubleshooting and have had reasonable exposure to cardiac resynchronisation therapy.

Main duties of the job

The post is full time at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. The successful applicant will work with the Device and EP consultants at the trust. Outpatient work will involve assessment and management of arrhythmias, heart failure and assessment for device therapy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The appointee will be jointly responsible for management of patients transferred to the LHCH with life threatening or incessant arrhythmias and for patients developing arrhythmia following cardiothoracic surgery or PCI procedures as well as the delivery of the Heart failure service within the trust.

The successful candidate will receive intensive training in all aspects of bradycardia pacing, ICD and CRT implantation and trouble-shooting. They will also be exposed to basic electrophysiology, complex revision and extraction work undertaken at the centre and implantation of leadless pacemakers and subcutaneous ICDs.

The holder will gain considerable experience of the management of cardiac device patients in a tertiary setting. 

There will be an opportunity to participate in the Tier 2 Cardiology rota within the trust.

Specific duties

Outpatient clinics-           One tertiary device clinic per week

                                                One specialist HF clinic per week

                                                One Pacing/ ICD/ CRT clinic

 

Pacing and EP                    2-3  complex device sessions     

                                              1 revision/extraction sessio

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • MRCP (UK) Or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • European Examination in Core Cardiology or equivalent knowledge-based assessment
  • Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months)

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that seen at a senior registrar level in UK training.
  • - Trouble-shooting Device issues in Pacing clinic - Remote management of HF with CIEDs
  • Ability to contribute to the efficient and smooth running of a specialist service.
  • Ability to organise and manage out-patient priorities and procedure waiting lists
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Cardiology
  • EHRA/IBHRE accreditation (or equivalent)

Research and Audit

Essential criteria
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
  • Peer reviewed publications.
  • Evidence of audit activity
Desirable criteria
  • Has published research in Heart Failure/ Devices
  • Has published in high impact journals
  • Postgraduate thesis or degree
