Main duties of the job

To work as a member of a multitasking maintenance team providing professional and technical expertise and with an effective and efficient focus on a service delivery.

To carry out or oversee the repair / maintenance or installation of complex plant and equipment associated with premises administered by the Trusts Estates department.

This will involve a multi skilled approach as well as the full range of duties associated with the post holder’s core trade. 

Professionally the post holder will be expected to maintain his/her appearance in line with the Trust dress code.

Uphold the Trust’s values and behave in a manner fitting with the responsible position of the role.

Maintain professional and courteous working relationships with staff and respect the equality and diversity of each and every person he/she comes into contact with in the course of his/her work duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Post holder is to carry out day to day electrical repairs, planned maintenance and improvements to the Trusts buildings in a manner that conforms to statutory regulations and codes of practice, while ensuring smooth running of the Trust.

The post holder will also be responsible for installation of electrical new work and small projects.

The post holder will be part of a multi-skilled, multi-discipline maintenance team.

Participation in the emergency on call will be required by contractual obligation to ensure safe systems and service continuity. Cross site working will also be required by contractual obligation.

You should have good diagnostic and fault finding skills, and be able to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals etc.

You should have a good understanding of the work of all other trades which is essential to maintain the flexibility of the department.

You may be asked to perform other tasks as and when required by management.

You must be capable of reading and understanding electrical installation plans and drawings.

You must be willing to attend courses as and when required.

You must be willing to partake in an on-call system

You must be able to work effectively and efficiently to the highest standards. This will entail participating in the Labour Management System.

Your involvement in this will be to read and understand work order cards filling in relevant details on completion of the work and maintaining a good performance.

This can be achieved by carrying out the work detailed on the work order card (PDA) within the time given.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in building services maintenance with a demonstrable track record of competence.

  • Previous experience in a large acute hospital.
  • Risk Assessments completion
  • Manual Handling

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A National Qualification Framework NQF achievement to level 3 or above e.g. BTEC /OND/EngTech or equivalent

  • Qualification in building services
  • Legionella/water systems
  • Asbestos awareness

Knowledge

  • Basic mechanical knowledge
