An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Permanent position as the Acute Team Lead Dietitian within the nutrition and dietetic service at the Walton Centre. The role will involve contribution to the leadership and delivery of the nutrition and dietetic service across The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust. You will be involved in the assessment and treatment of a defined caseload of patients and maintain accurate records. You will contribute to and lead policy and service development on matters relating to nutrition and dietetics. You will lead the dietetic services in defined clinical area with support from the Clinical and Operational lead for Dietetics.

Main duties of the job

Establish and manage a complex clinical caseload as appropriate to the service

To influence and manage the dietetic service ensuring high level clinical assessment, intervention and signposting based on evidenced based care.

To work collaboratively with other clinicians, including medical and nursing staff, to influence service development and ensure quality of care is delivered.

To provide clinical education and training to other health care professionals

Influence research, innovation and professional development for self and others.

Provide professional support and supervision across the dietetic service as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 To contribute to the leadership and delivery of nutrition and dietetic service across The Walton  Centre NHS Foundation Trust.To assess and treat defined caseload of patients and maintain accurate records.

To contribute to and lead policy and service development on matters relating to nutrition and  dietetics.

To lead dietetic services in defined clinical area with support from the Principal Dietitian

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • HCPC registration. Member of the British Dietetic Association
  • Experience of pre-registration dietetic student training and supervision of junior staff
Desirable criteria
  • Member of a dietetic specialist interest group
  • Relevant clinical post-registration training/CPD profile

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of varied post-registration clinical experience within the acute care setting at a senior level
  • Ability to independently undertake nutritional assessments for hospital inpatients
  • Competent to develop evidence-based nutritional care plans for hospital inpatients
  • Experience of working independently as part of a wider MDT at a senior level
  • Proficient in calculating energy, nitrogen, fluid and electrolyte requirements for a range of treatment approaches including oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition support
  • Experienced in the dietetic management of complex cases with multiple comorbidities
  • Ability to plan and prioritise a highly specialist clinical caseload within the acute care and rehabilitation settings
  • Good understanding of the role of the dietitian in services for patients with neurological conditions and able to identify key stakeholders
  • Ability to develop educational resources to meet the needs of patients and carers that are evidenced-based
  • Skills to train and supervise junior dietetic staff, other healthcare professionals and student dietitians
  • Ability to undertake clinical audit and service evaluation projects

  • To have highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly at all levels to patients, carers and members of the MDT
  • Ability to complete allocated work to agreed deadlines and to a high standard
  • Able to implement and monitor policies and procedures
  • Experience of identifying, leading and completing projects to meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain accurate clinical records in line with both national and local standards for record keeping
  • Effective leadership skills and a good role model
  • A positive attitude to change and flexible working practices to meet changing service demands
  • High level of organisational skills and delegation skills
  • Awareness of regulatory bodies (HCPC) and professional bodies (BDA), code of practice and professional guideline
  • Commitment to take part in CPD and departmental appraisal system
