Job overview

Applications are invited from ambitious, enthusiastic individuals to join our friendly multi-disciplinary Gastroenterology Unit at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. The successful applicant(s) will support in the delivery of high quality, endoscopy care in an accredited JAG Endoscopy unit, undertake outpatient clinics, and inpatient care on our dedicated Gastroenterology Ward.

Main duties of the job

This post(s) will join a committed team of 11 Substantive Gastroenterologists on the Wirral Peninsula. The Gastroenterology Unit is sub specialised into hepato-pancreatobiliary (HPB) and luminal services. The new appointee is expected to have a broad based gastroenterology background with subspecialist clinical or endoscopy interests. Additional PAs over the basic 10 PA contract may be offered and this would be formalised depending upon service needs.

As a consultant within the Medical Division you are not required to take part in the general medical acute on call rota, you will however, be part of the GI bleed rota.

The job available is for a Gastro Consultant with a specific interest in Luminal practice, however HPB experience is also acceptable. The new appointee is expected to have a broad based gastroenterology and endoscopy background.  The Trust would be able to offer more than one post to help expand gastroenterology services on the Wirral peninsula. Appointment to the post would depend upon the quality and the subspecialty skills of the applicant.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Entry onto the Specialist Register for GMC or be within six months of obtaining CCT/CCST/CESR in gastroenterology and GIM
Desirable criteria
  • MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research

Experience

  • High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the specialty
  • Able to contribute to the full range of skills required for the on call rota for the specialty
Desirable criteria
