Job overview

To contribute to the provision of health care for Cwm Taf University Health Board (CTUHB) by providing a day–to–day maintenance service, ensuring the estate is maintained to the highest possible standard, whilst providing a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.

The post holder will work to Estates procedures, guidelines and standards, referring to craftsperson/supervisor for guidance when necessary.

They will undertake work without direct supervision, and provide a comprehensive maintenance and breakdown service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for :

·        Undertaking maintenance, repairs, minor improvements and small capital work across the health board as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Cwm Taf UHB safety standards and procedures.  The role will also require performing activities which require a base level of theoretical knowledge.

·        Undertaking routine inspections, maintenance, repair, installations and fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant, buildings and equipment. e.g. low pressure hot water systems, steam raising plant and equipment, ventilation air handling plant, hydro therapy pools, wheel chairs, industrial catering equipment, nurse call systems, thermostatic mixing valves including quarterly tests as laid down by HTM’s, guidance documents, regulations & ACOP’s.

·        Undertaking Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on a wide range of equipment throughout the University Health Board.

·        Carrying out routine maintenance work consisting of lamp changing, shade/diffuser cleaning, carry out vehicle daily inspections/checks and record vehicle levels such as oil, water and tyre pressures to ensure vehicle is safe and fit for use.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ 3 or disciplines that are relevant/equivalent or level of knowledge and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) qualification/certificate
  • PASMA Training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous working experience or training in a maintenance based environment
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working within the NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of current guidance documents/ACOP’s /regulations etc. relevant to the post
  • Level 3 Welsh speaking and understanding skills
