Job overview

Support the Porter Manager in supervising the provision of Porter Services delivery that is managed from a Facilities Control Centre based at the hospital that provides a 24/7 point of contact service and ensuring a high quality service is delivered to patients, staff and visitors in accordance with service specifications.   Post holder will be required to perform supplementary duties to allocate a response to service needs and that are appropriate to the Facilities services and in line with their grade.

This post is fixed term for 6 months to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

To supervise, prioritise and allocate a response to a full range of operational Porter Services 24/7; e.g. the transfer of patients, movement of clinical and non clinical equipment, collection of specimens, pharmacy duties, patient meal service trolleys, hospital key management, mail services, allocate support to cleanliness services, management of a wheelchair service, medical gases, waste collection, security, car parking, transport and driving duties, (Cat B license holders with a Cat D1 driver entitlement only). Drive duties providing passenger and transportation of equipment.  

Ensure the completion and the maintenance of  paperwork necessary for effective management is undertaken by the relevant  porter services staff such as a daily log book for all security/safety incidents, providing shift reports, use of ESR (electronic staff record), incident forms DATIX, annual leave requests, pay cards, sickness absence procedures etc.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. Education/Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to a good standard of education Computer literate Full driving license, Customer care service training. Internal training equivalent to SIA accreditation certificate of training.
Desirable criteria
  • Health and Safety qualifications in managing safely Risk management Security training and
  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Porter services or related industry experience at team management level for a large NHS organisation or similar with diverse service driven activities Demonstrate experience in the implementation of change
Desirable criteria
  • Good understanding of the internal dynamics of the Health Service and NHS Trusts Experience of working in the security industry.
