Job overview

Support the Porter Services Supervisor and Porter Team Leader in supervising the provision of Porter and security services delivery that are managed from a Facilities Control Centre based at the hospital and ensuring a high quality service is delivered to patients, staff and visitors in accordance with service specifications.   Post holder will be required to perform supplementary duties to respond to service needs and that are appropriate to the Facilities services and in line with their grade.

This post is fixed term for 6 months to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

Provide a full range of operational Porter Services 24/7.  Prioritise and respond to security incidents where required and provide a porter/security service at other local Health sites where detailed in the post assignment instructions.

Report to the Porter Services duty Supervisor and the police any individuals reported or discovered committing criminal offences on Health Board premises in accordance with Health Board security policy and procedures.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. The Porter Services department at Prince Charles Hospital provides a 24/7 service, and successful candidate will be required to work nights, weekends, and Bank Holidays to support this. Shift patterns will be discussed with candidates during the interview process and a flexible approach will be required to be successful for this vacancy. There may also be a requirement to support Porter Services departments at other hospitals.

Porter services comprise of operational duties associated with waste, transport, community beds team, mail, support to cleaning services and general hospital porter duty functions.

The post holder will be responsible for providing a portering service directly to patients and service users.

The post holder is to work within the Porter Services Service Level Agreement and detailed assignment instruction for the post and site.  Is required to use own initiative when emergency incident and non-routine situations arise e.g. security and transport services incidents and challenges etc.

Contribute to the provision of healthcare for the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) by delivering a porter service which meets all organisational and legislative standards and support the Facilities Unit commitment to quality standards.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working within a busy customer focused and productive work environment (preferably within a healthcare setting) Previous experience of providing customer services
Desirable criteria
  • Prior work experience of porter, security or transport services with the health service or related work e.g. retail, factory, HM forces etc
  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels that include basic report writing. Ability to work as part of a team

  • Basic knowledge of porter or transport, waste, security, services, healthcare porter services
