Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for three successful candidates to join our busy team of community bed porters based at our Community Offices, Heol Draw. 

The position will consist mainly of supporting driving duties, but will also support all relevant porter duties as per role requirements.  

The post holder will work without supervision as a member of a multi-disciplined Team and will be expected to  deliver, install, repair and collect a range of medical equipment throughout Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) locality. 

Main duties of the job

1.     To work within CTMUHB and routinely at all Health sites, undertaking all duties as designated by the Porter Services Supervisor/Porter Service Team Leader (within remit of the role) in accordance with Porter Services Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and as detailed in the assignment instructions for the post and site.  

2.      To work as part of the fire response team, liaising with the relevant site nominated officer responsible for fire safety and colleagues, attending incidents and assisting with patient evacuation where necessary.

3.      To provide and working on a duty rota; for example, the transfer of patients, movement of clinical and non clinical equipment, collection of specimens, pharmacy duties, patient meal service trolleys, wheelchair management services, hospital key control, bulk stores deliveries, mail services, medical gases, waste collection and carry out driving duties on site and at locations off site. 

4.      To undertake the day-to-day routine duties the post holder is required to use various types of equipment and audit tool and communication devices supplied by the Facilities department, i.e. computers, Datix, Portertrac (Ausped), hand held audit devices, telephones, bleeps, two way radios, earpieces, etc.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to a good standard of education or relative work experience. • Customer services NVQ level 2 or equivalent level of knowledge and experience. • Full driving license. (Cat B license holders with a Cat D1 driver entitlement).
Desirable criteria
  • Able to confirm that have worked in a similar role either in or out of NHS
  • Knowledge of Porter duties
  • Knowledge of Manual Handling / or relevant ongoing training
  • Able to be able to communicate with patients, visitors, medical staff and colleagues in your area of work on a daily basis
  • Good level of literacy and numeracy
