Job overview

We are looking for a professional and punctual individual to join our Mental Health Transport Service based within St Cadoc's Hospital but responding all over Gwent. The role aims to provide an efficient response transport service to primarily respond to patients under the care of Mental Health Services. The post holder will be responsible for conveying service users who will often be detained under the Mental Health Act either from their home to hospital or from hospital to hospital or a dedicated place of safety.

When you are not transporting patients you will have other driving and ad hoc duties required by mental health teams across Gwent. At all times the post holder must act in a manner consistent with the policies and procedures of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 3 months to meet the needs of the service.  If you are interested in applying for this as a  secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

Main duties of the job

To drive service users safely and within the current road and traffic regulation to designated places as a when required.

To act as an escort to the person being conveyed for mental health assessment, admission to hospital or transfer between hospitals (if vehicle is being driven by another transport care support worker).

To provide a driving service for ad hoc duties, as and when required. This may include, but is not limited to, collection and delivery of Personal Protective Equipment, providing transport for patients on leave etc.

  • Willingness to undertake a driving assessment as part of the recruitment process
