Respiratory Specialist Physiotherapist

Job overview

To work as an autonomous practitioner to manage and carry out an agreed clinical caseload as part of the team, providing advanced physiotherapeutic assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice to patients who may have diverse and complex presentations.

· To cover on a rotational basis the following areas as agreed with the Team Leader: Surgical/Medical wards, Intensive Care Unit, Medical Admissions Unit, Medical Short Stay, Out-patients including Secretions clearance, Pulmonary & Cardiac Rehabilitation.

· To work independently under the guidance of the team leader and actively participate in the professional development of self and others

 · To contribute to other departmental activities including clinical education of students. 

Main duties of the job

· To work as requested 7 days per week (weekend 1:5)

 · To participate in provision of on call or other ‘out of hours’ services at weekends, evenings and Bank Holidays.

 · To ensure compliance with confidential patient records, hospital equipment and own safety in line with Trust policies and procedures.

· To provide written and verbal feedback to the multidisciplinary team regarding communicating rehabilitation needs/goals required to facilitate safe discharge.

 · To deputise for senior staff as required

Essential criteria
  • Registered with Health & Care Professions Council
  • BSc (Hons) Physio or equivalent
  • Professional Portfolio
  • Completed broad range of junior rotations i.e 5 or 6 different specialties over 18 months
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of relevant post-graduate training/CPD
  • Previous Band 6 experience
  • Previous elderly experience
  • Prior involvement with audit, outcome measurement, objective or standard setting
