We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to assist with the day-to-day running of our established busy Ophthalmology Department. You will be rewarded with an excellent professional and personal experience. Help will be available for candidates wishing to be included into the Specialist Register. This is a permanent post and the job attracts 10 PAs per week. Candidates who prefer a part time commitment are also welcome to apply. Main duties of the job
Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust would like to invite applications for a MTI / Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology with an interest in Oculoplastics.
Our team of Consultant Ophthalmologists, Specialist Nurses, Technicians, Orthoptists and Optometrists strive to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients, and provide a cohesive place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
You will be part of a team providing acute, out-patient, daycase and inpatient care to the population of Northamptonshire and surrounding regions.
There is a weekly Ophthalmic Journal Club held on Monday lunch times.
The ranges of duties are broadly listed below:

- Assisting with Medical Retina clinics and Retinopathy of Prematurity Screening
- Diabetic Retinopathy Service
- Age Related Macular Degeneration Service
- Independent laser lists
- Eye Casualty Service
- Regular clinical sessions in out-patient department and peripheral clinics.
- Peripheral clinic out-patient sessions
- Liaison with other departments on and off the KGH site at the request of Consultant staff.
The post-holder will be joining a cohesive team of soon to be seven Consultant Ophthalmologist's and will enjoy proactive involvement in developing and delivering, new innovative, clinical pathways and support education, audits and learning as an established Teaching Unit.

Education, Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Will be required to maintain a full registration with General Medical Council
Desirable criteria
- FRC Ophth or equivalent
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Four years full-time postgraduate training in Ophthalmology (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis)
- At least two of which will be in a speciality training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term speciality trainee in a relevant speciality or equivalent
- Experience with Medical Retina clinics including laser treatment and intravitreal injections.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards
- ST1/CT1 competencies in a relevant speciality at time of application and likelihood of achieving ST2/CT2 competencies in a relevant speciality by the start date of the post.
- Good written and verbal communication skills. Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
Desirable criteria
- Ability to teach, motivate and develop junior medical staff
- Audit/Research
