As Digital Director, you’ll report directly to our Chief Digital and Transformation Officer, working collectively championing Tom Loosemore’s definition of digital—applying the culture, processes, business models, and technologies of the internet era to meet rising expectations across our Trust.

You’ll lead the delivery of our Digital and Information Strategy, modernising infrastructure, platforms, and digital services to create seamless, intuitive experiences for staff and patients. You’ll foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement, ensuring NUH is at the forefront of the NHS 10 Year Plan’s digital ambitions.

· Drive the shift from analogue to digital, transforming how NUH delivers care and operates.

· Lead device modernisation, application rationalisation, cloud migration, and digital infrastructure upgrades.

· Embed agile, user-centred design and service improvement methodologies.

· Build strong partnerships across clinical, operational, and corporate teams.

· Champion digital inclusion and accessibility for all.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must have significant experience working in a senior leadership role (reporting to Director or Deputy Director) within a digital/technology service delivering to a large, complex organisation
  • Must be able to demonstrate substantial experience of service design leadership at a personal level across multiple digital/technical/information disciplines and multiple stakeholders with evidence of service development and continual improvement in a challenging setting
  • Must be able to demonstrate substantial experience of service transition leadership at a personal level across multiple digital/technical/ information disciplines and multiple stakeholders with evidence of successful transitions into ‘Business as Usual’ services on time, on budget and achieving expected benefits
  • Must be able to demonstrate significant experience of service operations leadership at a personal level across multiple digital/technical/ information disciplines; with evidence of achieving cross-discipline, service operation targets/goals
  • Must be able to demonstrate substantial experience in financial management of both capital and revenue budgets; including evidence of cost improvements/efficiencies against budget lines
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience in dealing with complex people issues and providing pastoral leadership to teams
  • To have demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the NHS and its culture
  • A proven track record in project management, managing and delivering highly complex and multiple projects across functional boundaries
  • Experience of cultivating a high performance culture

Communication and relationship skills

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to critically analyse and interpret highly complex information and make valid contributions to decision making through succinct presentation of the facts
  • Must be able to demonstrate reaching timely and effective decisions based on the appropriate use of information; then following the appropriate governance processes within the organisational structure to secure support for the decisions.

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience of service resource management and prioritisation within a complex, multi-disciplinary digital and technical service at an operational, tactical and strategic level to meet the needs of its customers
  • Must be able to demonstrate taking a digital solution through the design, business case, approvals, planning, delivery, business as usual and benefits realisation stages
  • Must have demonstrable knowledge of digital technology developments and how these may achieve visible clinical benefits to patients.
  • Must have a proven ability to motivate others to deliver complex initiatives, managing conflicting priorities.
  • Translates strategic direction into deliverable, measureable outcomes
  • Ability to interpret national, health and broad organisational policies and establish the way in which these will be implemented and interpreted
  • Able to manage and prioritise conflicting demands and meeting various deadlines required for producing highly complex tasks requiring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Able to work independently and on own initiative
