Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Grounds operative at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our busy Estates & Facilities Team who are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep at Trust properties. You will provide a professional service alongside our in house maintenance team providing a safe and pleasant environment for staff, visitors and patients alike. Will suit a well-motivated  individual who likes working outdoors who wishes to deliver a high level service to the community that use the Trusts sevices.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide the day-to-day maintenance to NUH properties including City campus site, Queens Medical Centre and Ropewalk House. Either this will be in the form of reactive tasks or pre planned maintenance to ensure that patients, staff and visitors have a pleasant experience when visiting the Trust. Applicant should preferably hold a full driving license to allow them to drive the Trusts vehicles including the road sweeper. The post holder will be expected to be guided by standard operating procedures, good practice and be able to understand what results and standards are to be achieved. The post holder will also be expected to be able to carry out duties independently and within small teams without routine supervision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties will include clearing debris and litter from the Trusts grounds, some gardening duties including trimming shrubs and hedges, leaf collection and general tidying of flowerbeds. Using the road sweeper to keep the roadways clear, some gritting of paths during the winter months and applying herbicides and pesticides to provide weed control. There will be the need to support the estates team in the overall delivery of the estates service across the Trust along with being responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment.

Training & Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Hold a current Pesticide/ Herbicide Certificate
  • Demonstrate a sound/basic level of secondary school education.
  • Must hold a current full driving licence
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate of competence in use of various Horticultural tools and machinery.
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A basic theoretical awareness and a good practical knowledge of horticulture / agriculture including grounds maintenance
  • A basic knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and procedures.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance.

Communication & Relationship

Essential criteria
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Exchanges routine information with colleagues and external contacts
Desirable criteria
  • Motivated and enthusiastic.

Analytical and Judgement

Essential criteria
  • Ability to carry out day to day maintenance of all associated plant and equipment and vehicles
  • Ability to fault find on equipment

  • Good basic knowledge of general maintenance & repair, also of tools and equipment
