Job overview

Sherwood Forest Hospitals are looking to appoint enthusiastic, highly motivated Medical Laboratory Assistants to join our Pathology team to deliver a safe and efficient diagnostic service, ensuring high standards of practice are achieved and maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Entry: Accurately and efficiently enter data into the Pathology system.
  • Specimen Handling: Label and process specimens, dispatch them to the appropriate laboratory area, place them on equipment for analysis, or prepare them for delivery to external laboratories.
  • Rotational Duties: Participate in rotas to cover extended working hours, including Saturday and Sunday mornings and Bank Holidays.

Central Services Tasks:

  • Specimen Reception: Receive all specimens and request forms.
  • Data Entry: Ensure accurate and timely data entry.
  • Pre-Analysis: Conduct preliminary analysis of specimens.
  • Results Line: Manage the central results line.
  • Consumables Distribution: Distribute Pathology consumables to users.
  • Report Management: Print and distribute laboratory reports.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Basic IT literacy skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • High levels of accuracy.
Desirable criteria
  • Proficient in the use of data systems.
  • ECDL.
  • Good organisational skills.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Min 4 GCSE or equivalent
  • Full driving licence
Desirable criteria
  • Laboratory Techniques NVQ level 2
  • Advanced driving certificate

Further training

Essential criteria
  • Clinical Laboratory Support NVQ 2.
  • Laboratory based training.
  • Competency based assessment.
Desirable criteria
  • Customer services.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good customer relations.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of a Pathology environment.

Contractual requirements

Essential criteria
  • Participates in rosters as requested. Shifts may be during any point of 24/7/365.
  • Clean driving licence.
