Job overview

Decontamination Services encompasses the Sterile Services DepartmentMattress Decontamination, and Endoscopy Decontamination.

The service is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an accredited Quality Management System for the processing of medical devices and mattresses, in line with all relevant CQCNICE, and medical device directives, regulations, legislation, and guidance.

We are committed to delivering and maintaining a high-quality sterilisation service for surgical instrumentation—whether produced in-house or purchased—essential to the operations of both on-site and off-site users. These include Operating TheatresWardsOutpatient ClinicsRadiologyEmergency DepartmentsCommunity Nursing, and Midwifery Services across NHS Trusts. Services are also extended to General PractitionersPrivate Practices, and Nursing Homes.

Main duties of the job

Job Purpose

This role will be based in Sterile Services and includes the following key responsibilities:

  • Delivering a high-quality service for the reprocessing and sterilisation of instrument procedure packs and equipment for the Trust’s wards, departments, theatres, and partner organisations.
  • Providing a high-quality service for the transporting, cleaning, and reprocessing of pressure-relieving and dynamic mattresses to wards and departments across the Trust in a timely manner.
  • Reprocessing used equipment to ensure it is supplied correctly, to the right place, at the right time.
