Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Practitioner to join the Senior Clinical Leadership team within Medicine in a Matron role. The post is ideal for an individual with a strong commitment to patient experience, quality and safety, who is keen to broaden their leadership portfolio.

This full‑time role offers the opportunity to support the senior leadership team in the leadership and management of clinical areas across the Medicine Division, contributing to high‑quality, safe and effective care.

We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic leader who can demonstrate progress towards the standards and competencies outlined in the Matrons’ Handbook. The successful candidate will provide inclusive, compassionate leadership and champion consistently high standards of clinical care.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Governance and risk management, ensuring safe, high‑quality care
  • Infection prevention and control, maintaining compliance and best practice
  • Operational performance monitoring, supporting effective service delivery
  • Workforce planning, promoting safe staffing and team development

You will join a fast‑paced, supportive leadership team committed to helping you develop professionally. This role offers an excellent opportunity to expand your leadership experience, develop new skills and make a meaningful contribution to the Medicine Division.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN registration with the NMC
  • First level degree or equivalent knowledge
  • Demonstration of on-going professional development
  • Qualification in teaching and assessing
  • Additional professional/management qualifications
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards Masters qualification or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive senior nursing experience within a complex organisation/NHS
  • Proven track record in leadership and management
  • Evidence of participating in and leading organisational change that has led to changes in quality
  • Experience of operating and communicating effectively with clinicians and Directors
  • Experience of working with external agencies and influencing internal change
  • Experience of initiating, conducting and evaluating risk assessments and investigations
  • Experience of leading and managing staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working towards Care Quality Commission and the National Health Service Litigation Authority standards
