Job overview
Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking to develop your clinical and team leadership skills?
This role provides an opportunity to lead the early years complex needs service across Shropshire Telford and Wrekin and to contribute to longer term planning for the ongoing design of service delivery. These might include; developing an all ages (0-19) complex needs support service to mainstream schools, or a place based wider early years speech, language and communication needs service supporting HVs and Family Hubs.
This is an exciting time to come and work with us as we move into Year 2 of ELSEC; taking the learning and spirit of success from Year 1.

The balance of the role in relation to direct clinical and leadership time will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Systems are in place for effective professional support across Children's Therapy Teams and the Child Development Centres. Our commitment to personal development, training, including to Advanced Clinical Practice, peer review and supervision are important to us. The successful applicant will need to be able to meet the travel requirements of the post across Shropshire and Telford. We welcome applications from SLTs seeking flexible working.
Main duties of the job
To be part of the management and clinical leadership team developing, delivering, and evaluating the Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Service in line with the agreed service specifications determined by Commissioners.
To provide clinical leadership for the service for young Children with Complex Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
To work in close partnership with parent/carers, professionals, and organisations to deliver a model of care, which makes a significant contribution to improving health, social and education outcomes, and reducing inequalities in access to services.
To be responsible for all issues relating to clinical practice together with other Team and Clinical Leads within the Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Team and relevant managers of Children’s Services.

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Holds Health Professionals Council license to practice as a Speech and Language Therapist
- Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist courses up to Master’s degree. Or ▪ Advanced experiential training within specialism.
- Qualification in management studies or similar, e.g. Leadership in Clinical Excellence or experience that would equate to first level (willing to undertake training)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post-registration experience at a highly specialist or advanced practitioner level in Speech and Language Therapy for Children and Young People with severe and complex needs including developmental needs and autism and of caseload management
- Demonstrable evidence of continued professional development in assessing the needs of young children with complex speech, language and communication difficulties, and in developing and implementing effective care.
- Evidence of some experience of risk assessment and management.
- Experience at post graduate level of delivering and evaluating relevant training and coaching programmes. ▪ Budget management experience (willing to undertake training). ▪ Experience of implementing change management techniques.

- High level of understanding of current professional issues
- Facilitative styles of leadership

- Demonstrate knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to young Children’s Speech and Language Therapy, and to children and young people’s education, including Safeguarding.
