Job overview

Our Catering Team play an essential role within the trust, responsible for catering at ward level and commercial outlets across both our hospital sites.
We are recruiting Senior Catering Assistants at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and looking for individuals who share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive a quality meal service.
We have flexible hours vacancy opportunities and would be happy to discuss hours and shift patterns with successful candidates.
We currently have a vacancy for a part time, 20 hour per week position.
Example for a 20 hour post below-
20 hours per week with alternate weekend working (different shift patterns over two week set rota e.g., 7.15 am – 11.15am or 11.30 am 15.30pm or 16.00pm -20.00pm)
Main duties of the job
- Help prepare and serve food to patients, staff and visitors in the hospital.
- Keep kitchen and food areas clean and safe by following hygiene rules.
- Use equipment like dishwashers, food trolleys and coffee machines safely and correctly.
- Work with other team members to make sure meals are served on time and to the right people.
- Talk politely with patients, staff and visitors and help with any questions or problems.
- Follow training and safety rules to do the job well and keep everyone safe.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 2 award in food safety or equivalent
- Evidence of a commitment to continuous development
Desirable criteria
- Level 3 in Food Safety
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to work on own initiative
- Proven ability to manage own workload and prioritise when there are competing priorities
- Evidence of experience of working and contributing in a team
- Evidence of ability to work under pressure
Desirable criteria
- Relevant experience of working in a catering environment, however full training will be given as part of an induction plan lasting at least a few weeks
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of good literacy skills and the ability to understand instructions, guidance, policies and procedures
- Evidence of delivering a high level of customer service
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of food safety systems, HACCP, COSHH and dealing with Allergens
- Proven ability to communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including; patients, staff-members, visitors, suppliers & environmental health
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
