Optometry Technician
Band 3
Job overview
Join our friendly and dedicated team in the Eye Unit here at the Royal United Hospitals Bath, set in the heart of our beautiful city. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and well‑organised individual with excellent communication skills who thrives in a busy clinical environment and enjoys working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
You’ll be joining a highly skilled and motivated team made up of 7 Ophthalmologists, 3 Associate Specialists, 6 Optometrists, 2 Senior Optometry Technicians, 4 Optometry Technicians and 4 Orthoptists — all committed to delivering exceptional care to our patients.
If you’re passionate, proactive and ready to make a difference, we’d love to welcome you to our team.
Main duties of the job
Our Optometry Technicians support clinicians by carrying out a wide range of diagnostic tests and assessments across both the RUH Eye Clinic and Frome Medical Practice. This includes measuring visual acuities, performing visual field tests, capturing retinal and anterior chamber images, undertaking optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans and completing biometry.
You will also provide administrative support to the Senior Optometry Technicians, helping to ensure the smooth running of the service.
Full training will be provided, and you will be supported to develop your skills as part of our friendly and experienced team.

A culture of learning, developing and innovating is the thread that runs throughout our whole organisation. We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential.
We value staff wellbeing, with a well-established programme of support. We believe in a holistic approach spanning all aspects of living a healthy life, including physical, emotional, spiritual and financial wellbeing. We’ve even got a pool!
We are committed to supporting you and hope you want to join our team.
