Job overview

This Post is a secondment opportunity for a Band 5 Mental Health (RMN) or General Nurse (RGN's) who wishes to work with adults in Substance Misuse Recovery.

Are you motivated, enthusiastic and looking for a challenge? Do you have excellent communication skills and a positive attitude as well as a commitment to providing excellent care to individuals who are experiencing a wide range of mental health and emotional needs in substance misuse recovery?

Acer Ward is a Nurse led Substance Misuse Recovery Ward with fabulous opportunities for learning and developing nursing skills, especially with physical health and the use of medication for detoxing/stabilising clients.

Nurses on Acer are an integral part of a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals that work to ensure that the clinical, environmental, social and health care needs of our service users are met, working collaboratively and therapeutically with individuals to empower and support them in their journey through Substance Misuse Recovery to 'Having a Life worth Living'.

You will have the opportunity to work and liaise closely with our MDT colleagues, local partnerships, both voluntary and statutory services and families.

All nursing staff are expected to work a mixture of shifts, Days, Nights and Weekends.

We very much look forward to hearing from you and are happy to be contacted prior to applying to discuss the role further or visit the ward.

Main duties of the job

Working within the rotational shift system of the ward, you will be an active member of the team working with your colleagues to create and develop the ongoing positive therapeutic environment of the ward. Sharing responsibilities of shift coordination and medication management within the shift.

Your role will include but is not limited to:
Attending multi-disciplinary ward rounds.
Ability to quickly develop trusting therapeutic relationships with service users.
Undertaking comprehensive, person-centred, nursing assessment. Preparing care plans in consultation with the service users to provide the best nursing care.
Ability to undertake risk assessment and develop risk management strategies for individual clients.
Support the provision of an appropriate learning environment for pre- and post registered students, novice practitioners, and new team members as directed.

To maintain and develop professional knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure that practice reflects best practice, remains evidence based, is current and responsive to meet changing patient and NHS service needs, as outlined in the NHS Plan (2000).
The team on Acer is committed to the continuing professional development of all staff and has a supportive training and supervision programme in place. We will support you with training, learning and development opportunities to develop your knowledge, abilities and skills.
