Job overview

The Obstetric and Gynaecology team are looking to appoint a new colleague for a full-time Obstetric only post based at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

This is a full time, 10 PA, 12 month fixed term post.

The post holder will have accreditation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and be on the Specialist Register.

The successful candidate will have a passion for Obstetrics and in particular Fetal Medicine.

Subspecialist accreditation in Fetal medicine would be desirable but not essential.  ATSM in Fetal medicine is essential.

An interest and experience in risk management would also be of benefit.

The department has a 3 tier on-call rota for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a 1:12 on-call.

This post will require cover of the Obstetric on-call part of the rota ONLY.

The candidate will join an already well-established team, which includes Consultants with special interests in Fetal Medicine, Maternal Medicine and diabetes, Urogynaecology, Menstrual Dysfunction, Minimal Access surgery, Endometriosis and Gynaecological Oncology.

Main duties of the job

General principles

To provide, to a high standard, the full range of specialist diagnostic and treatment services to patients requiring obstetric services, as outlined in the proposed programme. This includes management of obstetric patients at consultant level, i.e. labour ward management and decision making regarding high risk obstetric patients.

To organise, manage and be responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients at Musgrove Park Hospital.

Except in emergencies, or where otherwise agreed with your manager, you are responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities and undertaking the Programmed Activities set out in your Job Plan, as reviewed annually.  You are responsible for the associated duties set out in of the Terms and Conditions.

The purpose of including agreed personal objectives in your Job Plan is to set out in clear and transparent terms what you and your clinical manager have agreed should reasonably be achieved in the time in question.  These objectives are not contractually binding in themselves, but you have a duty to make all reasonable efforts to achieve them.

You will be provided with shared office accommodation and will share a secretary resource.

Working for our organisation

As an organisation, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust offers employees a wide range of benefits including flexible working, NHS pension scheme, generous annual leave allowance and a commitment to career  development.

You will be eligible for our Blue Light Card and a wide range of NHS exclusive shopping & leisure discounts.

We are proud of our skilled, diverse workforce and as an inclusive employer we welcome applications from all backgrounds.

Working in Somerset enables you to enjoy the idyllic countryside, areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines whilst still only being a stone’s throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable.

Somerset offers the countryside and the cosmopolitan – there is truly something for everyone!
