To provide services in Obstetrics and Gynaecology across the 2 sites of Doncaster Royal Infirmary & Bassetlaw District General Hospital in accordance with evidence based practice.  The successful candidate will also be expected, to participate in clinical audit,  the teaching of trainees and maintenance of our high standard of medical practice. 

Two vacancies have arisen in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust due to gaps in our current rotation to which we wish to appoint 2 Fixed Term Locally Employed Doctors of ST6-8 level. There is potential for these posts to be Clinical Fellows. If interested, please discuss further at interview.  This post is to cover a full rota, including nights and weekends on a 1:8 cycle.

There will be opportunity to have one fixed special interest session.

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain the highest clinical standards
  • To provide labour ward on-call cover on the registrars rota as second on-call
  • To provide cover for a wide variety of Antenatal and Gynaecology clinics & theatres.
  • To work with colleagues, both medical and allied health professionals to improve and advance the service.
  • To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Department.
  • To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities set out in a job plan will include, as appropriate;

  • Direct Clinical Care duties including any on-call work; this will be as per the second on-call rota with other Registrars and Senior Doctors.
  • Supporting professional activities to attend Friday pm meeting . The Doctor will be allocated an Educational supervisor in line with One additional ATSM/ special interest session.
  • Any additional NHS responsibilities.
  • Any agreed External Duties.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBchB/MBBS or equivalent
  • Part 1, 2 & 3 of MRCOG
  • Must have or be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council at time of appointment and continue to hold a License to Practise.
  • Completed at least five years’ full-time (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) postgraduate training (or equivalent experience) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to demonstrate clinical experience and competences in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at ST6 – ST8 and above level
  • Evidence of level 4 competency in Capability in Practice 10 (able to cover emergency obstetric without supervision on-site)
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role
  • Achieved all competencies’ for use of forceps and able to work independently for deliveries out of hours.
Desirable criteria
  • 12 months NHS experience at ST3+ level in O&G

Teaching & Training

Essential criteria
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of medical students, junior colleagues and non-medical staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications

Audit & Research

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of knowledge of research methodology
  • Critical Appraisal Skills
