NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Consultant Psychiatrist – Adult Inpatient Unit

Salary £121,765 - £164,165 (inclusive of a 3 year, 30% Recruitment Premia)

Are you committed to delivering high quality, place-based care?

Are you passionate about helping people and want to make a difference every day?

Our new and exciting strategy and 28 Promises focus on ‘nurturing the power in our communities’ and likely align to your values.

We want to hear from you!

We are seeking a dynamic and committed Psychiatrist within our Acute Directorate in Doncaster.

The Adult Mental Health Unit consists of 2 wards each with 20 beds and a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), which has recently undergone a substantial refurbishment, ensuring modern and spacious facilities. There is access to a seclusion and de-escalation suite.

You would be joining the Doncaster Consultant network, which covers the Community and Inpatient services, and you would be working alongside 2 Psychiatrists within the Adult Mental Health Unit as well as the ‘Lead Medic’ for the directorate. You would be working collaboratively with a Multi-Professional Team, including Junior Doctors, Psychology, Allied Health Professional, Nurse Consultant and (Trainee) ACP’s

Main duties of the job

You will be a leading member of the well-established, thriving, busy environment, and on a par with the current national picture, we frequently operate at over 85% bed occupancy. Admissions are alternated between the medical consultants. Patients are admitted via the Crisis Resolution team which acts as the gatekeeper for inpatient beds. Another less frequent route of admission is via the health-based place of safety used for section 136 MHA 1983 detentions. Our multi-disciplinary teams work in close positive collaboration with colleagues from other agencies and services both within and outside of the Trust. Inpatient services are supported by a dedicated Patient Flow team.

The sessions of Programmed Activity for this as a full-time post is agreed to include 2.5 sessions of Supporting Programmed Activities, enabling the post holders to pursue CPD, management, teaching or research interests. The Trust has generous study leave provisions (of 10 days and £1750 per Consultant Psychiatrist per annum) as well as a weekly educational programme, internal CPD, RCPsych Peer Groups and Trust training. Assistance with relocation is available in certain circumstances. The on-call rota is 1:21 and has been revised to only include inpatient/NHS on-call commitments (and not s12(2) MHA 1983 assessments either in the community or as s136 MHA 1983 assessments). Part time appointees will attract a proportionate share of the above and all posts will be subject to regular job planning review.
