Applications are invited from candidates with suitable training in Anaesthesia for the post of Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia based at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with Consultant colleagues.
The theatre complex includes 9 dedicated theatres, a procedure room and two MRI scanners. We provide regional and supra-regional surgical services comprising general, urology, neonatal, orthopaedic (including spinal and limb reconstruction), plastic, burns, ENT, max-fac, dental, neurosurgery with intraoperative MRI, and ophthalmology.
There are independently staffed Intensive Care and High Dependency Units.
The Pain Service is a well-established, multidisciplinary service.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Relevant specialist qualification or equivalent
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent or within 6 months of gaining CCT
Knowledge/Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Appropriate training and experience in paediatric anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
- Training, experience and or interest in Chronic Pain Medicine
Previous Training Management/Audit
Essential criteria
- Basic experience in management eg trainee rotas
- Clear involvement in audit
Desirable criteria
- Preparation of audit
- Understanding of NHS management responsibilities of consultants
Academic Achievements Research/Publications
Essential criteria
- Has interest in research and undertaken clinical projects
Desirable criteria
- Shown evidence of interest in relevant specialist research
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate well with children, parents and staff
- Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues from medical and other disciplines
Desirable criteria
- Ability to teach
