Fixed Term: 12 months | Full time (40hrs)

We are excited to offer an opportunity for someone to join our busy Paediatric Neurosurgery team for a 12 month period, and is aimed at neurosurgery trainees at equivalent of senior registrar level with an interest in paediatric neurosurgery.

While this post is not formally designated as a training position and does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean, you will still benefit from full access to the teaching and training opportunities available to other trainees.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Paediatric Neurosurgery Clinical Lead , some of your responsibilities will include:

You will report to the Paediatric Neurosurgery Clinical Lead, and will need to work flexibly to meet the demands of a busy tertiary unit. Collaborating with the Specialist Registrar, you will provide on-call cover for the Children’s Hospital during the day. You will also participate in the teaching of students and allied professionals.

You will be free to attend Neurosurgery Lists not timetabled if cases of interest arise, and the teaching hospital environment provides excellent opportunities for research.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualified medical practitioner
  • Registered with GMC
  • FRCS (Neuro.Surg) or equivalent training experience
  • Completed Basic Surgical Training in posts approved by the surgical Royal College or approved overseas equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Distinction, prizes, awards, scholarships, other degrees, higher degrees
  • Presentations and Publications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Validated logbook/appraisal document indicating appropriate operative experience
  • Competence in pre-operative and post-operative management
  • Demonstrated interest in Paediatric Neurosurgery
Desirable criteria
  • Computer skills
  • Evidence of participation or enthusiasm for audit
  • Understands the principles of audit

Knowledge and Skills

  • Potential to cope with stressful situations and undertake responsibility
