Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our department for a housekeeper post to work alongside our clinical team helping us to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our patients.

The post will require the applicant to work across the Gynaecology Unit supporting G1 inpatient and day case, Gynaecology outpatients and the oncology CNS team.

The Gynaecology unit comprises of inpatient and outpatient services relating to general gynaecology, oncology, early pregnancy, fertility, and emergency care.

Successful candidates will be well supported and have continuing opportunities for personal and professional development.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards on the ward and report to the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and Matron on the level of cleanliness in the area.
  • Participate in environmental monitoring and inspections.
  • Spot cleaning i.e. ensure spillage’s including body fluids are dealt with swiftly and efficiently in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Upkeep of ward appearance i.e. removing clutter, tidy notice boards, attend to storage requirements, signage, tidy nurse stations etc.
  • Ensure bed areas are clean and prepared for new patients.
  • Assist patients with meal choices as directed by the Nurse in Charge
  • Clinic equipment management and safe storage (both clinical and non-clinical)
  • Undertake errands, where appropriate, as directed by the Nurse in Charge.
  • Minor clerical duties as required.
  •  Ordering of stock and non-stock items, ensuring shelf top-up and stock rotation.
  • Deal with telephone calls and personal callers as appropriate.
  •  Carry out all duties safely and responsibly, showing awareness of Health and Safety Policies, Food Hygiene and COSHH Regulations
  •  Ability to maintain complete confidentiality with regard to all patient issues.

The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

Essential criteria
  • GCSE grade 4/D English and Maths or equivalent qualification/experience
Desirable criteria
  • Clerical / IT Qualifcation or relevant experience

Experience

  • Experience of working in a customer service environment with the general public.
  • Demonstrate ability to use a computer
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a caring or hotel/catering environment.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate and work well within a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding of confidentiality in the work place.

  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise own work load following area managers guidance
