The appointment is to commence in August 2026 for a fixed term period of 12 months. A motivation to gain additional experience in the field of Infectious Diseases is desirable. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to CT1 / F2+ level.
Main duties of the job
CLINICAL RESEARCH DUTIES
The post holder will primarily be responsible for identifying and enrolling eligible in-patients, outpatients and healthy volunteers to a portfolio of clinical trials in infection. Other responsibilities include data collection, sample processing, liaising with different clinical and research teams, supporting monitoring visits from central study teams, conducting participant follow-up where required, and project management. There are also opportunities to further develop leadership and management skills via the NIHR Associate PI training scheme, and attend conferences and investigator meetings. The post holder will also be encouraged and supported to undertake their own project during this time.
The current portfolio of clinical trials includes (but is not limited to) a number of interventional and observational studies such as the respiratory trials (RECOVERY, POS-ARI-ER, PNEUMO, and ASPECT), the gastrointestinal vaccine studies (BiVISTA and RESTORATiVE303), EMBRACE (E coli vaccine trial) and h-ARP (antimicrobial resistance in bacteraemia). The post holder will be expected to undergo training and certification in Good Clinical Practice (unless already certified) as well individual study specific training. The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) nursing team, local principal investigators for each study and the clinical teams in the department.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
- Basic Medical Degree
- Completion of Foundation competencies (or equivalent)
- Advanced Life Support
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Adequate post-registration training in General Internal Medicine
- At least 12 months post-registration experience working in an acute NHS hospital
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in Infectious Diseases
- Out patient clinical experience
- Intention to pursue a career in Infection Training
Personal Attributes

- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013).
