Advanced Specialist Pharmacist – Cancer Services - Haematology Band 8a
UHNM is a Cancer Centre including Level 3 haematology (providing complex inpatient chemotherapy regimens and autograft transplants) and also a Myeloma UK Centre of Excellence.
The pharmacy directorate has modern, purpose-built pharmacy departments on both the County and Royal Stoke hospital sites and has close links with Keele University School of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy team is enthusiastic, forward thinking and vibrant. We have a proven track record in re-engineering our services to improve the delivery of high quality, patient focused pharmaceutical care and optimisation of medicines use.
The Cancer Centre at the Royal Stoke site consists of a 40 bedded in-patient ward and a dedicated four bedded Emergency Admissions Bay for clinical assessment of toxicities. There is a 27 chaired out-patient area and four linear accelerators. The County Cancer Unit has a nurse led 16 chaired, four bedded out-patient day unit. The clinical trials team based on the Cancer Centre manage a broad portfolio of both commercial and non-commercial trials. Electronic prescribing is well established across both Paediatric and Adult Cancer Services
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic pharmacist to join an established team of Specialist Clinical Pharmacists to support cancer patients.
As Advanced Specialist Pharmacist for Haematology you will work with the Lead Haematology Pharmacist in the development of this service to both in and out-patients. As part of the wider Pharmacy Cancer Team primarily based at the satellite pharmacy on the Cancer Centre at the Royal Stoke site you will provide clinical services to the out-patient clinics. You will work alongside a team of Oncology, Haematology and Paediatric Cancer Senior Pharmacists under the management of the Lead Pharmacist Haematology. There will also be opportunities to work at the County site in Stafford.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be supported by the wider team and actively encouraged to undertake further training and studies. You will also be expected to forge links with specialist centres and train other members of staff as you will already have cancer experience
Independent prescribing is actively encouraged with two pharmacists currently having allocated prescribing clinics across both Oncology and Haematology. All specialist pharmacists are encouraged to develop their clinical skills to undertake further training to become non-medical prescribers.

Essential Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Master’s degree in pharmacy (MPharm)
- Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Band 8a-Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma / MSc or equivalent Qualification or evidence of equivalent experience or training
- Band 7-Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Certificate and working towards the completion of the Diploma or equivalent qualification or evidence of equivalent experience or training.
Desirable criteria
- Independent Prescriber with appropriate annotation on GPhC register or willing to undertake appropriate training to become an active independent prescriber
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB)
- Member of British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA)
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification
- Formal management and / or leadership qualification
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- Comprehensive experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner including a solid grounding in a broad range of clinical specialties
- Clinical pharmacy experience within chemotherapy/Cancer services and an enthusiasm to develop this
- Commitment and evidence of professional updating and formal continuous professional development (CPD)
- Computer literate and able to use Windows applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and internet
Desirable criteria
- Experience working with clinical trials and knowledge of the regulations relating to them
- Evidence of involvement in pharmacy practice research and/or audit
- Publication of research in a peer reviewed journal Management of Staff
