Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a first rate consultant, with specialist interest in complex devices and inherited cardiac conditions to join our growing team. The successful candidate will join a team of  26 consultant cardiologists, 8 of whom are specialists in  devices and EP, with 3 consultants supporting the ICC service.

UHNM is a high volume device centre, implanting more than 1500 pacemakers and devices in 24/25, including leadless and conduction system pacing devices for our secondary and tertiary population of patients. . 

The established ICC service provides specialist clinics for patients with HCM, DCM, muscular dystrophies, aortopathies, including patients with Marfan's syndrome, Ehlers Danlos and Loewys Dietz. The unit looks after a full range of channelopathies and has excellent links to the inherited conditions teams in Birmingham and Manchester.

Main duties of the job

The role includes 2 dedicated cath lab sessions for device implantation. Outpatient clinics with elements of general cardiology in addition to specialty clinics. The successful candidate will join the on call rota for cardiology, currently 1:11. With this, is the responsibility for ongoing care of  patients post take. Dedicated ward round time will be given. There will be opportunities to engage in formal teaching for the resident doctor team and educational and clinical supervision.

Service development and innovation are encouraged and well supported by the directorate and care group.

Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working:

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and within a team.
  • Attendance at MDT meetings

Academic Achievements, Research, Publications:

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience in research including recruitment to clinical trials
  • Willing to participate in audit programmes
Desirable criteria
  • Publications, presentations and previous audit projects. ICH-GCP certificate
  • Evidence of continuing research

Management and Administrative Experience:

Essential criteria
  • Good leadership skills, communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership training and experience

Personal Attributes:

  • Ability and means to meet the travel requirements of the post
  • Residence within 20 miles of base (return to base within 30 minutes if required)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) • Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) • European Community Rights
  • MRCP UK or Equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher research degree
  • Teaching Qualification e.g, PGCME

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialty training in devices
  • Fellowship in Inherited cardiac Conditions
  • General management of patients with cardiac conditions
  • Experience in developing and implementing new technologies or teams in a hospital environment.
Desirable criteria
  • BHRS / IBHRE / EHRA Accreditation
