Role Summary

    

       Continuing 24 hour responsibility for the management of a clinical area including the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards.

·         Facilitate innovation and evidence based practice through professional leadership and support of the clinical team.

·         Act as a credible and professional role model. Encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally and achieve their maximum potential.

·         Liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care.

·         To ensure optimum running of theatre suite to guarantee good patient flow and maximum efficient utilisation of theatre time.

·         The Theatre Co-ordinator (RN) will report directly to the Professional Head of Nursing or the Theatre Co-ordinator (ODP) will report directly to the Directorate Manager on professional issues.

·         Report directly to the Senior Theatre Co-ordinator for Theatres on operational, general management and clinical issues pertaining to their area.

·         Report directly to the Directorate Manager for Theatres on financial issues.

Main duties of the job

Establish a clear focus and direction for the team ensuring the staff understand their role and are given guidance and support to fulfil them.

Create a working environment that encourages flexible, innovative and creative working practices within the team, including working flexibly to maximise theatre utilisation.

Keep abreast of professional issues and current research based practice and ensure these are reflected in practice by all staff.

Adopt a high profile in clinical leadership and take a proactive approach at department and divisional level to review, implement and evaluate local and national policies which impact upon and affect the delivery of care.

Ensure that all activities in the area of responsibility are in keeping with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct & HPC Code of Conduct, reflecting an attitude and appearance that benefits the Trust.

Provide an authoritative and credible source of knowledge and specialist clinical or managerial advice as required.
