Job overview

A qualified and experienced HGV Class 2 driver, with a Category C Driving  Licence and Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is required to drive the Trust's Mobile Cancer Care Unit (MCCU).

Please only apply if you hold a valid HGV Class 2 (Category C Driving Licence) and Driver's CPC.

To be responsible for the delivery of the MCCU from the West Suffolk Hospital to an agreed daily community location and return the vehicle at the end of the treatment day.

To set up and prepare the MCCU for service on arrival at the site, returning to the West Suffolk Hospital at the end of the working day closing and securing the MCCU.

The driver would also be required to drive the support vehicle as required between the West Suffolk and the MCCU when at the community location as requested by the MCCU team.

Main duties of the job

Planning and organisational Skills:

To carry out a daily MCCU vehicle safety check for example tyre pressures, lights, fluid levels (oil, windscreen wash etc.), completing relevant documentation and escalating any concerns as necessary.

To maintain the vehicle in a clean condition, both internally and externally.

To report any mechanical defects to the Unit Manager, completing any relevant documentation as necessary.

To report any accidents or damage to MCCU to the Unit Manager, completing any relevant documentation as necessary.

To maintain and submit vehicle log sheets on a weekly basis including journey details and mileage travelled.

To transport patients to and/or from their own home, as and when required.

To transport medication and equipment to and from West Suffolk Hospital.

Support Duties:

To assist with non-clinical activities in order to ensure the smooth running of the MCCU; for example checking/setting up equipment, re-stocking trollies/cupboards, cleaning, emptying waste bins, running errands etc.

To give patients a warm welcome on arrival at the MCCU, assisting them with access to and from the vehicle when required.

To provide refreshments to patients on board the MCCU.

To assist nursing staff in the provision of high quality care to all patients receiving treatment in the MCCU.

To adhere to and promote all Trust Health and Safety and Hygiene policies and procedures.

To work in accordance with all other Trust policies and procedures.

Full, clean Driving Licence with eligibility to drive in the United Kingdom

HGV Class 2 ( Category C) Licence

Experience & Knowledge:

Previous experience of driving an HGV

Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the Data Protection Act 1998

Relevant Health & Safety legislation

Demonstrates an awareness of the importance of keeping the clinical environment safe and clean

Skills & Abilities:

Able to communicate with a range of people

Understanding of the importance of good customer service

Personal Qualities:

Diplomatic and calm under pressure

Self-motivated and able to work both autonomously and within a team
