Job overview
We have a one-year fixed-term vacancy to cover maternity leave. We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and forward-thinking individual to join our Biomedical Scientist team and contribute to the continued development of the Biochemistry Department at Wexham Park Hospital.
The laboratory is fully accredited by UKAS and holds IBMS training status for both Registration and Specialist Portfolios, offering an excellent environment for professional development.
Within the laboratory, we currently utilise Winpath Enterprise and Abbott Alinity ci analysers in the routine biochemistry section. Our specialist chemistry laboratory is equipped with TOSOH G11, Kryptor Compact Plus, and OsmoPro multi-sample micro-osmometer analysers. In addition, we use a Northstar Bio-UV spectrophotometer for xanthochromia analysis.
We are a fully automated laboratory, supported by a GLP track system, enabling efficient and high-quality diagnostic services.
Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS), one of the first NHS pathology networks to be established in 1998, is now one of the largest in the country. We are driven to provide a patient centred service which provides safe, high quality, clinically led diagnostics.
BSPS is a contractual joint venture between Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals, Frimley Health (Wexham Park & Frimley Park Hospitals), Royal Berkshire Hospital, Royal Surrey County Hospital and Surrey and Sussex Hospital.
Main duties of the job
- Work closely with the line manager to deliver a high-quality technical service, ensuring compliance with standards set by UKAS and ISO 15189:2022.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels, both technical and medical, to support the efficient delivery of services.
- Participate in a 24/7 shift rota as required.
- Be primarily based at Wexham Park Hospital, with occasional travel to other sites within the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Network.
