We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join our established Breakfast Services team within the NHS. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a vital role in patient care by delivering a safe, welcoming and high-quality breakfast service across our hospital wards.

Main duties of the job

As a Breakfast Host, you will support patients each morning by ensuring they receive the right meal at the right time, prepared and served safely and hygienically. Working closely with ward teams, you will help create a positive start to the day for patients across approximately 25 wards.

Each large ward has a dedicated Breakfast Host on duty from 07:00 to 10:30, working 17.5 hours per week (5 days out of 7 on a rota basis). There may also be opportunities to undertake additional bank shifts, including longer hours.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Assist patients with selecting their breakfast, considering medical, dietary and religious requirements in collaboration with clinical staff.
  • Serve hot and cold beverages and distribute meals promptly.
  • Refresh patient water jugs each morning.
  • Support patients who require help with eating and escalate concerns to nursing staff.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic ward kitchen.
  • Manage stock rotation, check expiry dates and order essential items.
  • Dispose of food and general waste appropriately.
  • Coordinate additional meal requests during core hours.
  • Complete required catering monitoring and reporting documentation.
  • Maintain high standards of Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Food Allergen Management (full training provided)

Previous experience in catering or healthcare is helpful but not essential, as full training will be provided.
