Please be advised that there is a temporary top up for Bands 2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top up to the living wage of £12.60 per hour - £24,638 per annum.

This temporary top up will be in place until the annual pay uplift for 2025/26 is confirmed.

Job overview

Provide multi-skilled engineering expertise across various electrical and mechanical equipment and fabric.

Provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients, staff and visitors by:

• Ensuring all essential services are maintained to support clinical departments in their prime task of treating patients whilst ensuring all statutory legislation is complied with.
• Ensure maintenance tasks are fulfilled to appropriate levels of quality in a compliant manner.

Main duties of the job

• Provide Shift Relief and/or On-Call.

• Carry out statutory planned preventative maintenance in line with Health Board procedures in critical areas, such as Theatres.

• Follow planned preventative maintenance schedules but incorporate flexibility into the working programme to avoid untoward disruption to wards and departments, to ensure unforeseen faults/problems are rectified promptly and safely.

• Plan, organise and prioritise materials and working programmes with other trades to ensure minor developments and maintenance tasks are completed as efficiently and promptly as possible, thereby minimising disruption to patient care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Completed an accredited Electrical apprenticeship training course to a minimum level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent plus relevant training or equivalent experience, plus additional training and developed skills, e.g. air conditioning

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills. Willing to develop individual knowledge
Desirable criteria
  • IT Skills
  • Welsh Speaker

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • High level of knowledge and understanding of electrical/mechanical services/systems and a working knowledge of other associated trades. Familiarity with approved guidance documents
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Health Technical Memoranda
  • General awareness of other engineering maintenance related statutory legislation.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working within the NHS.
