We offer flexible working, helping work fit around family and caring responsibilities, or training and development needs and there’s lots on offer in the way of benefits, such as, lease cars, childcare schemes, staff discounts, season tickets for travel and a cycle to work scheme. All this in a vibrant workplace supported by the following staff networks.

We also have a number of staff support groups which are open to any staff to attend. These Include:

  • Cisco IOS and the associated switching, routing, firewall & wireless products

  • VMWare

Main duties of the job

As an Infrastructure Engineer you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for the support, maintenance and development of the Trust’s network and telephony infrastructure

An Infrastructure Engineer must be able to maintain and troubleshoot the Digital Services Infrastructure to enable maximum system availability. A key part of the role is to investigate and demonstrate the use of new and emerging technologies which can support and improve ways of working across the organisation.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the Digital Services Out of hours On-Call emergency service.

Working for our organisation

We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.

There are 13 members of our Infrastructure Team which enables us to offer a very broad range of skills. Although the Person Specification (within the job description) may seem vast it is important to realise we have specialists in each of the key areas and it is only when we come together as a team that we are able to encompass everything.

You will soon find that no two days are the same and the opportunities to learn and develop are always there and very much encouraged.

The Trust works from more than 70 sites across Cumbria, Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland. We have more than 8,000 people working for us and a budget of over £500 million. All of which means this is definitely not a 9 – 5 desk-based office job.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Infrastructure Engineer role is a mix of innovation and support. It goes without saying we always strive to maximise system uptime but providing users with access to the latest technologies to make their role easier and maximise our valuable resource across the trust is also key to the success of the infrastructure team.

The configuration, documentation, support, maintenance and development of the trust’s server, network and telephony infrastructure is key to the role.

As part of the infrastructure team working alongside the other Digital Service functions you will quickly develop relationships and opportunities which combine to form both a challenging and rewarding role.
