Job overview

This post is to work as part of the Inpatient Occupational Therapy team within Walkergate Park to support the running of the service and rehabilitation goals of patients within Walkergate Park under direction from qualified Occupational Therapist.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will assist in the delivery of care to service users who have a variety of needs, diverse presentations and a range of  neurological conditions under the direction of a qualified OT. The overall responsibility for the service user remains at all times with the qualified OT.
 
You will deliver interventions under supervision and guidance from a qualified OT and as a lone worker where appropriate undertaking delegated tasks within competency boundaries.
 
You will support with the everyday running of the service in collaboration with the OT team.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Senior Healthcare Support Worker or equivalent or working towards

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appreciation of illness/disability and neurological conditions and the impact of these on a person’s lifestyle
  • Awareness of health and safety relevant to people with neurological impairments, both inside the centre and in community settings
  • Working understanding of the practice of occupational Therapy
  • Ability to deliver therapy programmes for people with complex neurological presentations related to their physical, mobility and sensory needs and taking into account their leisure needs
  • Ability to follow and carry out OT programmes, provided by a qualified therapist.
  • Ability to cope with the frequent physical demands associated with the post
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in occupational therapy.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary setting.
